Key Learnings

  • What type of support has more impact on small farmers' productivity and income?
  • How can you provide this support cost-effectively to thousands of small holder farmers, and still make money as a company?
  • How do you make sure farmers whom you invest in stay loyal to your organization and do not sell to competitors?
  • Do cooperatives protect and reward farmers better?

Description

This webinar presents findings on the progress of agribusinesses that engage smallholders. In the conversation, Jessica Graf (Hystra) and Hugh Scott (AECF) compare their data on which businesses are thriving and delivering impact for farmers, and discuss their common findings about the farmer as a rational decision-maker.

Hugh drew on learning from 100+ commercially sustainable agricultural projects funded by the AECF and the AECF’s recent Impact Report.

Jessica shared findings from Hystra’s report on Smallholders and Business, for which 300 examples were scanned to select the strongest 15 case studies.
