This working paper is a primer on “innovative finance”, a catch-all term that refers to a range of strategies to effectively generate, combine, and use public and private financing to achieve a range of development goals and impact. This umbrella term is also used to describe blended finance, impact investing, and results-based finance, which are being adopted and implemented by an increasing number of international donor and development agencies to fund social impact-generating firms and enterprises.

El presente documento de trabajo es una introducción a la "financiación innovadora", un término general que se refiere a una serie de estrategias para generar, combinar y utilizar eficazmente la financiación pública y privada para lograr una serie de objetivos y repercusiones de desarrollo. Este término genérico se utiliza también para describir la financiación mixta, la inversión de impacto y la financiación basada en los resultados, que están adoptando y aplicando un número cada vez mayor de organismos internacionales de donantes y de desarrollo para financiar empresas y negocios generadores de impacto social.
