How digital platforms enable sustainable partnerships

leverist.de provides matchmaking with impact
5. Jul 2022

Digital platforms shape the way people around the world buy goods and services online. But platforms can do much more than facilitating commercial transactions, and their potential is now unfolding in many non-commercial settings. Development cooperation is one of them. This article portrays an example from the field which shows that platforms can leverage sustainable partnerships.

Partnerships for the SDGs

To reach the sustainable development goals (SDGs), public and private actors need to work together and join their financial capacities as well as technological skills. At GIZ – a federally owned company supporting the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development - various programmes support the implementation of collaboration between companies and development cooperation. Companies receive tailored advice, access to business networks in the partner countries, as well as professional support in the implementation of their projects. Still, it can be tough for companies to find concrete entry points and opportunities to start a business or partnership abroad and/or collaborate with development cooperation projects.

Matchmaking to do good

Out of this challenge, leverist.de was created. As digital matchmaking platform, leverist.de serves companies as a digital gateway to development cooperation. Companies can directly contact over 250 development cooperation projects with concrete business opportunities. These range from the implementation of agro-processing technologies in Cambodia to a partnership on the use of AI for carbon capture in Zambia.

Since the start of leverist.de three years ago, more than 600 matches have been made, from which several cooperation projects have already emerged. Through leverist.de, initiating cooperation between companies and developing cooperation is thus becoming more digital, transparent and accessible to both sides.
