Seeking positive social and environmental impact for Central America and the Caribbean
- FLII CA&C will take place November 16-17th in Antigua, Guatemala and the theme is levelling the playing field to seize impact opportunities
- FLII CA&C unites over 300 members of impact investing, social entrepreneurship, and multinational organizations en an interactive dialogue.
The region will witness the second edition of the Latin American Impact Investing Forum for Central America and the Caribbean (FLII CA&C). The event will take place November 16-17th, 2016 in Antigua, Guatemala and the theme is the theme is levelling the playing field to seize impact opportunities.
Impact investing does not only generate a financial return, but it also takes into account the social impact generated by the investment. The funds that work in Latin America generate a total of 1.2 billion dollars according to the latest report of View of Impact Investing in Latin America published by the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE).
The impact investing industry and social entrepreneurs focus on business models that address a prominent issue in the region and provide a solution. For example, in Guatemala EcoFiltro seeks to solve the issue of lack of access to clean water in the country. EcoFiltro is one example, but there are many other enterprises that provide access to affordable housing, healthcare, or sustainable tourism.
The theme of levelling the playing field aims to bring entrepreneurs and investors on the same page. On one hand the objective is to highlight these entrepreneurs and connect them with the financial resources they need to generate more impact and on the other the objective is to display Central America as a region with tremendous potential for impact investing and to attract some of the 1.2 billion dollars to the region.
Through over 30 dynamic activities such as panels, workshops, interviews, speed pitches from entrepreneurs, and key note speakers, the participants will have the opportunity to learn first hand the trends of impact investing worldwide.
The first edition of FLII CA&C in 2015 over 300 people attended from 12 countries, including investors, social entrepreneurs, corporations, capacity developers, and public sector, amongst others. The second edition will include more activities, the participation from the Caribbean, and three main focus areas: entrepreneurship, investing, and trends.
Alterna, the center for social innovation and entrepreneurship in Guatemala, and New Ventures Mexico present FLII CA&C to continue to position the region within the impact investing industry.
