YamBEEji Rice Contracts over 240 farmers for new rice variety

YamBEEji Honey and Rice has multiplied new rice variety in zambia in the last season amounting 1mt are used it to contract new farmers in non rice traditional flooding rice growing areas, this has attracted many people in the country. The company has also partenered with Lumwana Mines in its effort for social responsibility were farmers are being supported in rice growing and upto 30 farmers have been adopted to grow the new variety for the first farmer, and in mufumbwe over 50 farmers have received seed and have trained how to grow each one to do half a lima, In Zambezi over hundred farmers are being trained and supervised with the help of the Agriculture department to learn and grow the rice which is so responding well as one farmer managed to produce a record 15x50kg bags of rice. this has attracted many farmers who want to diversfy as they think it will give them more revenue compared to what they are currently earning on the maize and cassava harvest, the company ran out of seed as many farmers where responding to want grow the new rice variety.
We hope 2012 will be able to include many farmers and the company will polish for the first time the non aromatic new variety that is grown away from flooding areas.
