The aim of this study is to identify feasible concepts for enhancing rural insurance services and literacy in India. It explores the evolution of agriculture in India and the potential opportunities for insurance, illustrating and analysing existing companies, models and reforms for agricultural insurance. Based on this analysis, the paper concludes with suggested interventions for the preparation of a new development cooperation project “Risk Reduction through Rural Insurance Services”.
