This case study focuses on the business model of Edipack, a leading paper recycling and packaging material enterprise, located in Durres, Albania. The company includes various vulnerable groups such as orphans, Roma and disabled people as small suppliers in its value chain. NGOs act as intermediaries between the firm and small suppliers, and on?the?job training to low?skilled employees is offered in the production process.

This case study focuses on Mondi South Africa, a paper producer with a global presence. It outsourced its supply chain of recovered fibre. Through an ‘owner-driver’ scheme, it has encouraged some of its former employees to create their own paper pick-up and delivery businesses, creating opportunities for empowerment, encouragement and economic development further down the value chain, with benefits for people in the form of employment, increased income, skills transfers and enterprise development.
