This report identifies seven inclusive business models that expand access to goods, services, and livelihood opportunities for the Base of the Pyramid while generating strong financial returns. It summarises and analyses patterns in the solutions companies with inclusive business models are using to succeed.

This report includes a set of 31 case studies on IFC’s portfolio companies with inclusive business models. The presented companies are profitably providing goods, services, and livelihood opportunities to the Base of the Pyramid. In the case studies the reader gets an insight in the specific background of the companies, the business models as well as drivers for the specific business models and results of the latter.

This case illustrates an approach to provide affordable earthquake-proof construction in an earthquake prone country with the rising young population who need houses and jobs. Understanding local conditions and building absorptive capacity to adopt, implement, maintain and scale up the technological solution is critical. Developing know-how and training local young graduates are the key factors driving the successful development of Saraman.

Esta publicación presenta seis modelos de negocios inclusivos en diversos temas que han sido exitosos por parte de la cartera de inversiones de la Corporación Financiera internacional. Se resumen los modelos, se exponen y analizan las razones por las cuales han sido exitosos, esto con el objetivo de servir a personas del sector privado que estén interesadasen iniciar un modelo de negocios inclusivo.

Este artículo se enfoca en las características de la base de la pirámide en Ecuador, revisa tres sectores donde se podrían desarrollar negocios considerando a este segmento como clientes: calentadores deportivos, vestidos de novia y cine.

This report explores the concept, design and approach of business models providing affordable housing to the Base of Pyramid; it illustrates case examples and draws on insights regarding barriers to scale on land rights, finance, supportive policy and collaborative action issues. It concludes with recommendations for the stakeholders including Financial institutions, Social and Private investors, and Real Estate Developers, that are involved in building the market for affordable housing.
