The 2019 SEEP Annual Conference theme – Building Resilience through Market Systems – will highlight proven and experimental strategies that harness the potential of the market to support people, enterprises and communities that are highly vulnerable to the shock-stress-shock cycle. Shocks and stresses are increasing in frequency and intensity around the globe. Climate and weather variability, population dynamics, local and global price shocks, illness and disease, political instability, and conflict are intersecting in complex ways that threaten the lives and livelihoods of people and erode hard-fought development gains.

Facilitation of business deals and promotion of investment are also prioritized. The sixth and final event in the Grow Asia Digital Learning Series takes a closer look at microfinance - a proven solution for smallholder farmers and small businesses that lack access to formal financial services. Since its earliest application in the mid-19th century, microfinance has evolved and given rise to an ecosystem of providers that aid in service-delivery to beneficiaries. The event will explore how digital solutions can further transform modern microfinancing operations, especially to integrate various service providers, manage risk, and ultimately scale the impact of microfinance.

Webinar

Aggregating farmer/worker data at the national or international level allows Standards to better understand the farmers/workers they are reaching. However, both data collection and aggregation is difficult when farmers/workers do not fit into pre-defined categories. This is particularly relevant for women, who are often working as family laborers. This webinar will be an opportunity to discuss issues around farmer and worker categorization and classification. Better Cotton Initiative will share their experiences and promising practices to reach women through gender-sensitive definitions and inclusive metrics, and discuss how this could be improved and adapted going forward.
