Planet in Peril: Efforts to save it. #SIBCONFERENCE2017
The 2nd Conference on Sustainable Inclusive Business comes at a time the government is stepping up efforts to promote environment consercvation through the banning of plastic manufacture and usage. The move by the government to ban the manufacture, importation and use of polythene bags is believed by many to be the remedy our environment has wished for a long time now. As much as the public seems to be excited about this decision, there is lesser attention provided to the full impact this will leave on areas such as the economic welfare of the many workers in the polythene-making companies, and also the huge hurdle of changing the mindset of the public.
In an article on the Daily Nation, Karin Boomsma, SIB Kenya’s Project Coordinator explains approaches which businesses can make to adapt to the new law such as recycling, and incentivizing the use of biodegradable bags, and the role the public can take in making this possible.

As part of the 2nd Private Sector Conference on Sustainable Inclusive Business, which will be on 26thApril, there will be a set of workshops to attend, including one that will delve more into this issue; Workshop on how we can move From Business waste to business value through means such as recycling, down-cycling or up-cycling, with various practical examples.
The Knowledge and Network Manager Hamilton Omollo, in a statement said "The conference will provide a great opportunity for businesses to share knowledge and build potentially fruitful partnerships"
