Kuyasa CDM Project: Renewable energy efficient technology for the poor
This case study focuses on a programme implementing the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which retrofits low-income houses in the urban township of Kuyasa, Khayelitsha, South Africa with solar water geysers, insulated ceilings and compact fluorescent light bulbs. The programme is funded through a funding model of the South African Export Development Fund. The report describes the market and location context, the business model, and looks at the constraints, relationships and results.
