The African and Asian Resilience in Disaster Insurance Scheme (ARDIS) operates as the world´s largest non-governmental climate insurance programme. ARDIS will support rural families and smallholder farmers with financial resources and loans after natural disasters. They make use of an innovative financing structure to make recovery lending scalable. Adopting ARDIS also assists microfinance institutions in climate risk reduction, ensuring the continuity of their services and business growth. Insurance for small hold farmers is a crucial element for gaining more access to finance for them. Notably here is the connection to climate change, which affects small hold farmers disproportionally.
