This report points out the huge potential of small businesses in terms of poverty reduction. It deals with factors which affect the formation and growth of small and medium enterprises (SME) such as features and indicators of a good business environment or financial issues and it analyses the role of the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) in its support for SMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean.
