This report examines the evolving market for consumer credit and it focuses on the motivations, behaviors, and experiences of middle-class consumers that are taking advantage of these new offerings. It encourages financial services providers to enhance their existing consumer credit risk assessment platform and provides recommendations for policymakers.

This study provides, for the first time, data that evaluates the ability of social enterprises to satisfy the basic needs of poor populations. Focusing on Colombia, Mexico, Kenya and South Africa, the dynamics in the public, private, and third sectors were examined, and to what extent these influence the activities of social enterprises. The study includes concrete recommendations on how to increase the contribution of social enterprises to poverty alleviation.

This paper deals with two GTZ programmes which offer pro-poor services in value chain promotion. The first case is a programme of private sector development in Kenya which gives insights into the challenges, lessons learned and the impact of the programme based on a survey. The second case explores the transaction costs of knowledge management, learning and communication in value chains through the example of a speciality coffee value chain of FAPECAFES in Ecuador.
