This report aims to capture characteristics of the impact investing sector in Latin America over the past two years, based on a sample of impact investors active in the region. Through institution-level and deal-level data shared by these investors, it gives a snapshot of where and how capital is being allocated and identifies challenges that the ecosystem faces. The report focuses on the region widely while taking a deeper dive into three of the region’s largest markets: Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico.

This report is based on the discussions that took place at the "Business Opportunities in Housing for the Base of the Pyramid" event held in Sa?o Paulo, Brazil in September 2013. It provides a summary of the housing crisis in Brazil, including the challenges related to: infrastructure; financing; land tenure; urban housing services; reaching the poorest in society; and the role of business in the housing sector.

This case focuses on the inclusive business model of a leading Brazilian retailer and wholesale distributor, Tenda. The business model includes the provision of credit to micro entrepreneurs and the engagement of clients in a capacity building programme. The report presents opportunities, strategy, implementation and results of this business model.
