The Entrepreneurship Database Program collects information from entrepreneurs when they apply to accelerator programs. These entrepreneurs, both those selected and not selected, are then surveyed annually to gather valuable follow-up data. This report summarizes application data collected from ventures operating in Central America that applied to participating accelerator programs between 2013 and 2018.

This case study gives advice to impact investors and investees on new and emerging methods to strengthen their impact measurement practices. The case tracks the WDI team as it pilot-tested a new impact measurement framework with three social enterprises in Nicaragua, Brazil and Peru. The case also provides recommendations to improve the impact measurement practices of investors, as well as the enterprises they support.

The aim of Research Paper #5 was to extend analysis on a randomized evaluation of voluntary health insurance in Managua, Nicaragua. The paper presents evidence that this insurance product did not increase wasteful consumption: children who were insured but not sick at the beginning of the study reported fewer visits to all providers than those who were uninsured but not sick. Importantly, this insurance product did result in some targeting towards less healthy children, as those who were sick at the beginning of the study reported significantly more visits to all providers, including covered providers. The researchers also present retention results where they find that only 6 percent of those insured were retained 18 months after subsidies were no longer available. Lastly, they present some descriptive statistics of diagnoses at health centres and costs to discuss the implications of the main burdens of disease.

Este documento desarrolla las dinámicas de las cadenas productivas de arroz, lácteos, madera, cacao y cerdos en la región del atlántico norte de Nicaragua. Así mismo desarrolla propuestas para mejorar el acceso de los pequeños productores a mercados locales, nacionales e internacionales.
