How can the government promote Inclusive Business (IB) and Impact Investing (II) in Nigeria? This report makes four major policy recommendations: institutionalising support, promoting awareness, creating a financing structure, and putting in place a coordinated stimulus implementation strategy. In addition, it provides an overview on the present landscape for IB and II in Nigeria.

Under this scheme and through its strategic partners, it has supported Unión Majomut, a cooperative of coffee farmers from Chiapas, so that it partakes in the entire value chain and earns a higher income for partner families.

Argidius Foundation supports small and mediumsized enterprises to improve the quality of life of the population living in poverty by promoting entrepreneurship ecosystems that involve strategic partners. To this end, Argidius has supported Thriive (in Guatemala), an organization that provides institutional strengthening and equipment acquisition services to small and medium-sized enterprises, under a “repay the community” model.

Based on concrete case studies, this report analyses the landscape for investing in impact in Latin America. It provides insights on the development of this type of investments in the region, the participation of different actors in the ecosystem, the financial mechanisms used, the non-financial support offered, the impact measurement and monitoring tools used, and the exit strategies implemented.

At the GOGLA Forum in Nairobi six active lenders to PAYG companies - SIMA, SunFunder, responsAbility, OIKO credit, Lendahand and CDC Group - shared their lessons learned and provided an outlook on the sector. This short report is a structured summary and reflection on the key points that came up.

The authors aim to catalyze a competitive marketplace of companies providing smallholder farmers with a choice of affordable, inclusive and high-quality services. For this they are building a common understanding of the key barriers and opportunities for providing smallholders tailored, high-quality services at scale, coupled with advice, technical assistance and de-risking finance to pilot new business models and partnerships.

The report builds off the 2015 Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) study, The Landscape for Impact Investing in West Africa. Nigeria and Ghana represented more than half (54%) of impact investing capital in the region, with Nigeria receiving 29% and Ghana receiving 25% of the capital deployed. This 2019 study seeks to understand the extent to which investor experience, deal flow, and outlook have evolved since 2015 and policy has enabled or inhibited impact investing, and in turn to propose policy recommendations that address the issues identified.

The African Impact Report 2019 is a catalyst for collaborative coordination amongst global stakeholders to fast track sustainable and scalable solutions for Africa’s prioritized impact needs. This working paper presents a baseline of the progress pertaining to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union (AU) Agenda 2063, macroeconomic growth prospects, capital availability and sector opportunities. It further outlines gaps which require a collaborative effort to address in order to ensure the much needed outcomes for the African continent is achieved.
