This case study examines CB Farm Fresh, a cold storage, processing and distribution business for fresh vegetables serving the extractives industry in Tete, Mozambique. It aims to understand how smallholder-inclusive business models can be successfully implemented by assessing CB Farm Fresh’s end-to-end model, and it highlights interventions of the CB model that ensure successful integration of smallholder farmers.

This report looks at how inclusive business models provide agribusinesses with ways of working that create shared value with economies of scale for agribusinesses and thus lower risks and costs. It shares lessons of ‘learning by doing’ by agribusiness companies working with smallholder farmers across sub-Saharan Africa.

This report is based on four case studies of agricultural value chain PPPPs developed through projects financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Ghana, Indonesia, Rwanda and Uganda.
